The BTPS CCA Experience
The BTPS Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) Experience
Fostering Experience, Exposure and Excellence
At BTPS, CCA is about building character and learning values through the 3Es of Experience, Exposure and Excellence.
Experience
Students participate in a variety of experiences during CCA, allowing them to explore and grow beyond the classroom. Through hands-on learning, they grow in resilience, teamwork, and leadership skills. The BTPS CCA journey starts at Primary Three with the CCA Fair, where students and their parents learn about the different CCAs in our school. Following this, students can experience up to three CCA of their choice during the immersion experience, before finally selecting one.
Exposure
Depending on the nature of the CCA and capacity of the CCA members, students are provided with opportunities to participate in competitions, performances and events beyond weekly CCA sessions. These experiences broaden horizons and build confidence.
Excellence
All Primary 3 to 6 students are strongly encouraged to participate in a school-based CCA. While students may be selected to represent the school in the National School Games (NSG) for sports, the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) and other competitions and performances, students are encouraged to aim for personal growth and mastery in the CCA. Striving for excellence and persisting in their chosen CCA supports their journey towards becoming Adaptive Learners, Empathetic Leaders and Future-Ready Citizens.
CCA Policy
CCAs play an important role in nurturing well-rounded students through character development, teamwork, leadership, and resilience. The following policy outlines the school’s approach to CCA participation and allocation.
CCA Participation
1. Primary 3 Students
Primary 3 students are encouraged to join one CCA. This marks the beginning of their formal CCA journey, and students are encouraged to make thoughtful choices and commit to the allocated CCA.
2. Primary 4 and Primary 5 Students
Primary 4 and Primary 5 students who did not participate in any CCA in the previous academic year may apply for a CCA, subject to availability.
3. New Students to Bukit Timah Primary School
Students who transfer from other schools to Bukit Timah Primary School between Primary 3 and Primary 6, either before or during the academic year, may apply for a CCA.
Prior CCA experience may be taken into consideration.
4. CCA Transfer Requests
Primary 4 and Primary 5 students who wish to explore a different CCA may submit a transfer request, subject to vacancies and suitability, within a stipulated period. Primary 6 students are to remain in their current CCA for continuity as CCA stands down for graduating students after Term 2.
CCA Choice and Placement
CCA placements are determined based on available vacancies, suitability, and the need to maintain balanced and sustainable CCA group sizes. Where demand exceeds capacity, the school will put appropriate processes in place to ensure fair and equitable allocation.
Commitment and Responsibility
Students are expected to demonstrate responsibility and commitment once they are allocated to a CCA. Regular attendance and active participation are essential for meaningful learning and personal growth.
BTPS encourages students and parents to work in partnership with the school to support students in making informed CCA choices and sustaining their commitment throughout the year.
